Playback Error!

This guide addresses the 'Already Allocated' playback error in SmoredBoard.

"Already Allocated" Error

When you try to play a sound, you may receive an error message indicating the device is "Already Allocated".

Playback error message showing device already allocated

This means the SmoredBoard tried to play audio through one of your selected output devices — but that device is already being used by another program in a way that prevents us from using it at the same time.

Common Causes

  • - Another application (OBS, Voicemeeter, Discord, etc.) has exclusive control of the device
  • - The virtual audio cable is already in use and doesn't support multiple simultaneous sessions
  • - The output device is locked due to driver or system settings

Recommended Solutions

  1. 1. Try another output device in SmoredBoard settings
  2. 2. Restart your computer to free up the device
  3. 3. Close other applications using the same device
  4. 4. Adjust Windows Sound Settings:
    • - Right-click the device in Sound settings
    • - Select Properties
    • - Go to Advanced tab
    • - Uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"
